Refreshing the homepage for a growing movement - Library of Things

Research, Wireframing & Prototyping, UI Design

The goal

Library of Things offers affordable, convenient access to tools and items to communities across London. Their homepage was in need of an update, the scale of the business had grown and the requirements had changed. The goal was to promote sign ups to the service, educate people better on the proposition on arrival and offer content for different user bases

The approach

Insights gained from users and monitoring behaviours indicated discovery of the service and exploration of the items without committing to a reservation straight away, to keep Library of Things in people’s minds we promoted sign ups to the service so that when the right DIY project came along, Library of Things would be front of mind.

Following several design workshops, stakeholder buy-in and feedback iterations, we created a solution that made more sense to users and helped the service come to life by showcasing real borrowers using it.

The outcome

This update doubled visits to the join page, from 6% to 12%.
It also brought more qualitative improvements, such as UGC (borrower stories) & social proof (borrower testimonials) as well as improved visibility of real impact statistics and project inspiration. Providing a richer experience and more developed first impression for new users.
